The 27-year-old who, at dawn on August 5, 2022, rear-ended a car at 140 kilometers per hour on State Road 16, between Santo Spirito and Giovinazzo, causing it to go off the road and causing the death of the 47-year-old driver, the well-known Bari barman Massimiliano Colonna, risks 2 years in prison.
The Bari Public Prosecutor's Office, at the end of the trial held with the abbreviated procedure, requested the conviction of the young driver, accusing him of "negligent and imprudent" driving, in violation of a series of articles of the Highway Code, from speeding to failure to respect the safety distance. The technical investigations into the dynamics of the accident, in fact, allowed to establish that the 27-year-old was traveling with his Mazda at a speed of 140 km/h on a stretch of state road where the maximum speed allowed is 90 km/h. This, according to the prosecution, would not have allowed him to maintain control of the vehicle and to perform all the necessary maneuvers in conditions of safety.
