Chris Brown Released On Bail, Green Light For His World Tour

(Adnkronos) – American singer Chris Brown, 36, has been released on bail by a London court after being charged with an “unprovoked” assault at a nightclub in 2023. The judge set a record bail of 5 million pounds, equivalent to about 5.8 million euros. The decision by the magistrates was reported by the BBC.
The pop star, winner of two Grammy Awards and known for hits such as 'Loyal', 'Under the Influence' and 'Turn Up the Music', is accused of hitting a music producer with a bottle of tequila during a night at Tape, a nightclub in Mayfair, one of the most exclusive areas of the British capital.
Brown was arrested on Thursday, May 15, in Salford, northern England, and held in custody until Wednesday, May 21, when Southwark Crown Court decided to grant him bail. In an Instagram post shortly after the decision, the singer wrote: “From the cage to the stage!”, confirming that his world tour will kick off as planned in Amsterdam on June 8.
Judge Tony Baumgartner ordered that £4 million be paid immediately, with the balance of £1 million to be paid within seven days. Conditions include Brown having to reside at an address known to the court, not being able to contact the alleged victim, and not being able to enter the Tape venue. He must also surrender his passport whenever he is not travelling on tour.
The artist will have to appear in court on June 20, between the dates of the concerts in Cardiff and London. He will also be joined by his co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, 38, known by his stage name HoodyBaby, also from the United States.
The proceedings are still in their early stages: the 36-year-old has not yet entered a plea of guilt or innocence, but the British prosecutor's office has formally charged him with grievous bodily harm. Despite the outcry, the episode does not seem to have slowed down the singer's plans, who is expected in the coming weeks in various European cities including Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and London.
