Fasano Zoosafari celebrates its blue ribbon: a baby gorilla has been born, the first in Italy in nearly 50 years.

An unprecedented happy event recently thrilled the Fasano Zoosafari : a baby gorilla was born, the first in Italy – reports Repubblica Bari – in almost fifty years. A birth that, as the park emphasized, "is not only a unique event, but also represents a beacon of hope on the path toward conservation and protection of the species."
The gorilla family in FasanoThe little one's mother is Tamani , who arrived in May 2024 from Rotterdam Zoo along with her sons Tonka and Thabo . The father is Nasibu , the silverback gorilla who arrived in Puglia last November from the Pairi Daiza zoo, near Brussels, as part of the European Endangered Species Management and Reproduction Programme (EEP) of Eaza , the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Nasibu had taken the place of Riu , the oldest specimen in Italy, known as the “sad gorilla”, who died in 2024. The new breeding family, the only one in Italy, worked and today the Zoosafari is celebrating an extraordinary result.
The images and joy of the parkA sweet photo was posted on the Puglia shelter's social media pages, showing "mother Tamani cuddling and protecting the puppy with her immense love, under the watchful eye of father Nasibu." The photo immediately garnered thousands of happy reactions and comments.
A rare event in EuropeThe birth of a gorilla remains an exceptional event: just over a year ago, two baby gorillas were born in London and Prague zoos, confirming how rare and precious this outcome is for the protection of the species.
