Foggia is nearing sentencing on the risk of criminal charges: the defense is calling for an anti-mafia investigation.

Calcio Foggia 1920 is experiencing hours of great apprehension as it awaits the decision of the National Federal Tribunal , which next Thursday – after two postponements – will be called upon to rule on the possible penalty for the unpaid salaries and tax contributions relating to last April 16th. This decision could cost the Rossoneri between 4 and 8 points next season.

As reported by Telesveva , the club had paid the due amounts only a few weeks after the deadline , following the emergence of a sensitive investigation conducted by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate , which revealed mafia-related intimidation against the club's top management. This is precisely the crux of the defense adopted by the club: a context in which – according to Foggia's lawyers – it was not possible to operate with peace of mind, much less publicly justify the delays in payments.

Chionna: "The company was forced into silence."

Vincenzo Vito Chionna , Foggia's judicial administrator, clarified the club's position: "Mafia intimidation led to the need to sell a club that was no longer interested in paying. During those four months in which it was unable to pay, Foggia could not publicly explain why . President Canonico , having filed a complaint, was bound by the confidentiality of an ongoing criminal investigation ," he explained.

This anomalous situation, according to the defense, should lead to the penalty being overturned , precisely because of the extraordinary circumstances affecting the club. But it remains to be seen whether the Federal Court will take these factors into account or opt for a formal sanction, as per the rules.

Team under construction, market blocked

On the pitch, meanwhile, Delio Rossi's team remains a work in progress . A skeleton squad has assembled in Trinitapoli, with just 13 players available , many of whom have come from the youth system. The transfer market is struggling to get off the ground, partly due to the uncertainty surrounding the penalty , which is holding up negotiations.
