I, a social worker, do not give up the looks that welcome

Try to do without. Without those who build bridges, when someone arrives in a new country, and transform the arrival into an opportunity for everyone, not a barrier. Without those who fight educational poverty every day and create spaces where children can read, play, discover, grow.

Matthew Garino.

Try to do without nurseries, early childhood services, spaces that welcome the little ones from their first steps. Try to do without those who believe in work as a right, not as a privilege , and every day give an opportunity to those who face disability or those who live fragility.

Try to do without those who work to offer a perspective even to those who live in detention, and open concrete openings towards reintegration by reducing the percentage of recidivism. Try to do without this network that builds opportunities, that every day keeps alive the possibility of choosing one's own future. The only thing left would be exclusion .

And instead, every day, there are hands that reach out, looks that welcome, professionalism that builds . They are the face of a welfare that leaves no one behind. And that makes an entire community great.

Try to do without is also the title of the March issue of VITA magazine in which we imagined what everyone's life would be like if we couldn't count on social subjects .

If you already have a subscription you can read the issue here , if you want to subscribe go to vita.it/abbonati .

The welfare that is not seen, that does not make the news, but that every day allows millions of people to live, not just survive . It is made up of educators, operators, volunteers, professionals, families. A welfare that exists only because there are people who choose to be there every day. And today, with these words, we try to give voice to their work. To tell what often remains invisible. To remember that without this network, without this commitment, without this presence, nothing would remain but emptiness.

In Piedmont there are over 3 thousand Third Sector entities that work for welfare, with over 82 thousand employees who choose to stay every day. We do NOT try to do without .

The letter from the regional councilor of Confcooperative Federsolidarietà Matteo Garino was shared in Turin during the Dialogues on Welfare organized by Confcooperative Federsolidarietà Piemonte (we wrote about it here and here )
