The Forestry Corps' commitment to protecting the environment
Over half a ton of textile waste , including plastic and non-woven fabric, was dumped in the Nestore stream. This was discovered by the Carabinieri Forestali of the Marsciano unit during a land survey, which led to the filing of a complaint by a Chinese businessman , former owner of a company in the sector.
The discovery was made in the hamlet of Castiglione della Valle, in the municipality of Marsciano , following a report of waste abandoned in the riverbed. The military, engaged in environmental surveillance, immediately began an investigation, and within weeks traced the source of the waste: a local textile company that had recently ceased operations. The investigation led to the identification of the person responsible for the illegal disposal : a Chinese man, former owner of the business. The man was reported to the Spoleto Public Prosecutor's Office for the abandonment and illegal transportation of non-hazardous special waste . After being identified, the entrepreneur independently and at his own expense took care of the proper disposal of the waste, cleaning up the area. However, this is not the first time that law enforcement has discovered illegal landfills in the countryside and near rivers.
At the beginning of the summer, the Carabinieri (Nocera Umbra station command, Gubbio Company, and Carabinieri Forestry Units) also detected the presence of hazardous waste along the banks of the Topino River. The officers identified the person responsible: a 40-year-old entrepreneur, owner of a sole trader in the wholesale trade of scrap and metalworking by-products, who was reported to the judicial authorities. The area was placed under seizure.
"The landfill manager," the Carabinieri said, "although registered in the national register of environmental managers, was not authorized to store the waste collected in his own garden. He was reported to the Spoleto Public Prosecutor's Office." The entrepreneur was also fined approximately €3,000 "for transporting ferrous waste without properly completing the required waste form." Unfortunately, environmental damage is often seen even when wandering the countryside, among piles of scrap metal and discarded materials.
