Minors on bicycles without lights at night: it's an alarm

Minors on bicycles without lights at night: it's an alarm

With the start of summer, the extraordinary evening checks of the Local Police have begun throughout the territory of the agreement, with two patrols engaged yesterday evening, June 6, until midnight. The respect of the opening hours of the minimarkets in Stra was checked. A bar reported for disturbing the peace of the condominiums in Saonara was checked. Surveillance service was carried out at the Galta festival in Vigonovo. Finally, a checkpoint was set up in Noventa, near Piazza Europa, after a patrol round in the hamlets of Noventana and Oltrebrenta.

Several vehicles were stopped that were found to be in order, and unfortunately numerous bicycles driven by minors, completely without lights. The officers limited themselves to warning the boys, making them get off their bikes and go home, after having explained to them the dangers of such behavior. "The lights on at night - recalls the commander Luca Meneghini - are not only a legal requirement for cyclists, but a fundamental safety device that can make the difference between life and death, as our experience has unfortunately demonstrated too many times". "These checks - declares the deputy mayor of Noventa Nicola Cannistraci - contribute to the safety of our fellow citizens at all hours of the day. As effective as the video surveillance system is, which we are working to further increase, nothing can replace the presence on the territory of the men and women of the Local Police, who deserve a gigantic thank you for the commitment and availability demonstrated".

This type of checks on Noventa Padovana will continue throughout the summer with increasing frequency, especially to monitor the speed of vehicles in transit. In fact, there are numerous reports received by the command that refer to vehicles speeding on the Noventana in the direction that connects the municipality of Padua to the Riviera del Brenta at speeds much higher than the 50 kilometers per hour allowed by the Highway Code. The declared objective of the local police and at the same time of the municipal administration led by mayor Marcello Bano is to avoid through these checks serious road accidents that in recent weeks have claimed an impressive number of victims in the province of Padua.
