More injuries than goals, Correa-Inter at the end of the line: Tucu to be released in July

Will the skit with Inzaghi be Correa's last Inter highlight? Maybe, even though Tucu still has 5 months ahead of him in black and blue. What is certain, however, is that the exchange between the striker and the coach during Saturday's match against Genoa left everyone a bit surprised. And it is equally certain that Inter and Correa will definitively separate on June 30: Tucu's contract expires in 2025, which implies that it will not be renewed. Few goals, too many injuries, a decidedly unprofitable loan to Marseille last year. No, the former Lazio player's time in black and blue did not go as Inzaghi had hoped: the Inter coach, in the summer of 2021, had pushed hard to have the striker who had done so well under his guidance in white and blue. Lotito had demanded and obtained around 33 million for his contract and his debut - in Verona with a decisive brace as a substitute - had given the illusion that Tucu could really become fundamental for the team. However, the pitch said otherwise: more injuries than goals, never decisive, never reliable even from the point of view of rotations. And so we arrived at today. Inter tried to get rid of him in various transfer sessions without success, until the natural expiry of the contract set for June 30, 2025. Against Genoa Inzaghi focused on Tucu to try to recover him, but the responses received were very different. Zero danger and yet another physical knockout, complete with a skit with the Nerazzurri coach himself.
What happened? In the 42nd minute, after a colorless performance, Correa collapses and makes it clear to Inter's medical staff that he cannot continue. However, the first half is practically over and Inzaghi has no intention of wasting the slot for a substitution right at the end. A minute later, Tucu returns to the field, but within a few seconds he throws the ball out for a throw-in to ask for a substitution. "Play" Inzaghi tells him, effectively denying him the substitution. The first half ends with Correa walking on the field and Simone furious. Tucu will not return at the start of the second half, replaced by Taremi. But today it is difficult to imagine that he will also be able to return to Inzaghi's rotation from here to the end. The end of the line has been reached. And a definitive assessment can now be made: 33 million euros wasted.
