Pope Calls for Peace in Middle East: “Diplomacy Must Silence the Weapons”

(Adnkronos) – The Pope calls for peace. During the Angelus today, Sunday 22 June, Leo XIV spoke about the situation in the Middle East, a few hours after the US attacks on Iranian nuclear centers: "There is a succession of worrying news from Iran and the Middle East. In this scenario that includes Israel and Palestine, the suffering of civilians, especially in Gaza, risks being forgotten", said Prevost.
“Today more than ever, humanity calls for peace, a cry that must not be drowned out by the clash of weapons and rhetorical words that incite conflict. Every member state of the international community has the moral responsibility to stop the war before it becomes irreparable,” continued the Pope, thus appealing to Western powers to avoid escalation.
“War does not solve problems, but produces deep wounds in peoples, which take generations to heal. May diplomacy silence the weapons, may nations trace the future with words and not with bloody conflicts,” concluded Leo XIV.
