Puglia excels in prevention: 97.53% of objectives achieved certified by the Ministry

T he Puglia Region confirms its position at the top of Italian healthcare in terms of prevention. The Ministry of Health has certified the achievement of 97.53% of the objectives set by the Regional Prevention Plan (PRP), a result that places Puglia among the most virtuous regions in Italy, also significantly improving the performance of previous years. In 2023, in fact, the achievement rate had stopped at 88.42%.

The President of the Region, Michele Emiliano , enthusiastically welcomed the ministerial assessment, underlining the strategic value of prevention: “Putting it at the center means reducing inequalities, improving the quality of life and freeing up resources to better treat those who really need it”. The objectives achieved in fact concern crucial areas, such as the promotion of healthy lifestyles, prevention of addictions, safety in living and working environments, vaccinations, maternal and child health, oncological prevention and environmental prevention.

The Regional Prevention Plan 2021–2025, approved by the Council on 22 December 2021, is divided into 16 programs, ten predefined and six free, built around the specificities of the Apulian territory. The results obtained also positively influence the indicators of the Essential Levels of Assistance in the context of collective prevention and public health, demonstrating the ability of the regional health system to respond concretely to new challenges, including factors related to climate, environment, biodiversity and food security.

Raffaele Piemontese , Councilor for Health and Animal Welfare, was also satisfied and defined the achievement as “the result of effective and shared governance,” thanking healthcare workers, General Directorates of the ASL and IRCCS, Prevention Departments, multidisciplinary groups and the Department of Health Promotion. “It is an exceptional result, which rewards a strategic and operational vision,” he said.

With 97.53% of the objectives achieved, Puglia consolidates a public health model focused on prevention as a tool for cohesion, efficiency and quality of life for citizens.
