Restoration in sight for Santa Giustina and the Praglia Abbey: 4.5 million euros ready

Work in progress in the churches of Santa Giustina in Padua and Santa Maria Assunta in Praglia: the two most important Benedictine churches in the Padua area are currently the object of particular attention by the State.
For the static and seismic safety of the church of Santa Giustina, the Ministry of Culture has allocated 1.55 million euros, which the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan area of Venice and the provinces of Belluno, Padua and Treviso has allocated to the study, survey and diagnostics of the general state of conservation. Thanks to the collaboration of the University of Padua (Department of Civil, Building and Environmental Engineering), the new knowledge framework is particularly broad and detailed and has allowed us to identify the main structural criticalities of the roof, to resolve which the executive design is currently underway.
In parallel, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, through the Interregional Superintendence for Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the spirit of sharing project initiatives with the Ministry of Culture and the Superintendence for the metropolitan area of Venice and the provinces of Belluno, Padua and Treviso is developing the design for the recovery/restoration of the main dome, based on the structural verification provided by the Superintendence and the survey carried out with drones, commissioned by the Superintendence. At the conclusion of these interventions, the main conservation criticalities of one of the largest basilicas in Christianity should be resolved.
Also in Praglia, the abbey church dedicated to the Assumption needed an immediate structural intervention on the roofs, generously ensured by the Fec - Fondo Edifici di Culto of the Ministry of the Interior, with the allocation of three million euros. The objective is to guarantee the safety of the imposing system of trusses and the roof covering, the access staircase and the churchyard. The general coordination is handled, on behalf of the Fec, by the Prefecture of Padua, which avails itself of the Public Works Department for the planning and execution of the works, and of the Superintendence for high surveillance.
