She Gives Birth, Flushes Newborn In Toilet, Body Recovered From Manhole: Mother Arrested For Murder In Rome

Infanticide

A dramatic story dating back to last October and which had its epilogue in the last few days. It is the one that comes from the province of Rome, where a 29-year-old woman was arrested by the police of the Mobile Squad of the Rome police headquarters and by the investigators of the Frascati police station on charges of murder .
Her victim was the newborn she gave birth to and then threw, alive, into the toilet of an apartment . The events occurred in October in Montecompatri, a town in the province of Rome where the 29-year-old of Nigerian origins gave birth in the bathroom of some friends: after having induced labor, she threw her son, 26 weeks old, down the toilet.
The baby's body was recovered some time later in a manhole connected to the house's drainage pipes and DNA testing confirmed that the baby's mother was the woman who was arrested. The 29-year-old was tracked down and arrested by the police in an apartment in the Finocchio neighborhood , on the eastern outskirts of the capital.
The investigation began after the alarm was raised by doctors at an emergency room in the capital, where the 29-year-old had presented herself complaining of illness. She had denied having given birth to the doctors, but the findings contradicted her. From there, the report was made to the police and the investigation coordinated by the Velletri Prosecutor's Office led to the arrest.
The woman is now in Rebibbia prison after the execution of the custody order by the agents. The other two children of the 29-year-old have been entrusted to relatives .
A chaos that recalls the one that also occurred in Rome in 2012 : a newborn was found in the bathroom of a McDonald's in Piazza Don Sturzo in the Eur district, but in that case he was saved by a customer who had heard his piano coming from the bathroom of the restaurant. A year later the mother, a 21-year-old Romanian who had gone on the run, was sentenced to four years in prison for attempted infanticide. The woman had been recognized thanks to the internal cameras of the fast food restaurant.
