South: Banking foundations provide €100 million for regional development.
Founded in 2006 following an agreement between banking foundations and representatives of the Third Sector and volunteer service centers, it has seen its assets increase from an initial €315 million to the current €439 million, thanks to prudent and effective management.
Considered a virtuous model of intervention for the social development of the southern regions, it has funded over 1,900 initiatives, supported the creation of the first seven community foundations in the South and made available a total of more than 318 million euros.
With these premises, the board of the Association of Foundations and Savings Banks SpA – Acri has approved the renewal of its support for the foundation for the period 2026-2030. The commitment includes the allocation (by the associated banking foundations) of 20 million euros per year for the next five years , confirming the desire to continue, in a stable and structured manner, a joint national solidarity effort to strengthen the social capital of Southern Italy.
The Fondazione con il Sud has established itself as an exemplary model thanks in part to its unique shared governance (foundations and the Third Sector), making it unique in the Italian landscape. Over its 19 years of activity, it has demonstrated a remarkable ability to understand local needs, develop effective and innovative intervention mechanisms, and serve as a point of reference for supporting volunteer and Third Sector initiatives in Southern Italy.
The rigour of the disbursement processes and the virtuous economic and financial management of the Fondazione con il Sud have found further confirmation in Acri's choice to entrust it with the management of the Fund for the fight against child educational poverty , through the social enterprise Con i bambini , entirely owned by the foundation itself.
