Summer heat puts cars at risk: 10 items you should never leave in the sun (they can explode or catch fire)

With the arrival of scorching heat, leaving your car parked in the sun can turn it into a heat trap . According to the experts at Parclick.it , Europe's leading parking booking app, the interior temperature of a closed vehicle can easily exceed 50°C even on moderately warm days.

Such extreme heat can melt materials , damage equipment , and, in the worst cases, cause explosions or fires . Yet, many drivers continue to leave objects in the passenger compartment that become real hazards in the heat.

"Parking your car in the sun can turn the interior into an oven, posing real risks to people and vehicles," warns Ester Stivelli, Squad Lead at Parclick. "It's best to choose covered or shaded parking spaces and be careful about what you leave in your car."

Here are 10 items you should never leave in your car in the summer.

1. Lighters – Highly flammable: the gas inside can expand and explode, starting a fire. 2. Plastic bottles – They can act as magnifying glasses and cause sparks; heat degrades the plastic, releasing harmful substances. 3. Electronic devices – Smartphones, tablets, and power banks risk overheating, short circuits, and battery explosions. 4. Pressurized sprays – Deodorants, air fresheners, and detergents in cans can explode when exposed to heat. 5. Perishable foods – Dairy products, meat, and ready-made meals spoil within minutes, developing dangerous bacteria. 6. Cosmetics – Lipstick and foundation melt, ruining and staining interiors and fabrics. 7. Medicines – High temperatures reduce their effectiveness or make them dangerous, especially insulin and liquid antibiotics. 8. Plastic glasses – Frames and lenses can warp, compromising vision. 9. Credit cards and documents with chips – Heat can demagnetize or damage magnetic strips and microchips. 10. Toys with batteries – Batteries can leak corrosive liquids or overheat and catch fire.

The golden rule for summer

In addition to avoiding leaving these items in your car, the experts at Parclick.it recommend choosing covered or shaded parking spaces . This is a simple but effective precaution to reduce risks and ensure the safety of people, your vehicle, and your belongings.
