The Controversial Boeing, Qatar's Gift to Trump Sparks Discussion

There are only external images of the Boeing 747 that Qatar will gift to Trump. The interiors, however, are already known to be super-luxury like those of another Boeing refitted in recent years to please the expensive needs of the Emir of Abu Dhabi, finished with gold controls, a bedroom with a bathroom with a gold sink, a large meeting room, walnut burl furnishings.

There are also other possible adaptations of even greater luxury, in classic or futuristic style, with a transparent ceiling that can be darkened. The Boeing in question is worth 400 million dollars. Trump will use it instead of Air Force One, which is equipped as a flying fortress, capable of repelling air and missile attacks, super safe, even from the point of view of communications. It is not known whether the Qataris have equipped their plane with similar equipment.

Or if by chance they filled it with bugs. There is also a big ethical conflict - say citizens' associations - because Trump has strong economic interests in the Gulf countries, and it is not known what Qatar could ask in exchange. The Constitution prohibits government leaders from receiving gifts to public office holders and this is the biggest one a president has ever had.

But Trump is not going to give up: "I'm not a fool to turn down an offer like that. Wouldn't it be foolish to say, 'I don't want to get a plane that expensive?'"
