Arezzo, May 14, 2025 – Together they raised 53,546 euros and 60 cents for Calcit. Power of the army of yellow hats, children of yesterday and today who on Sunday, May 11, dedicated an entire day to supporting the Arezzo Committee that has been fighting tumors since 1978 with donations to public health. Almost a million a year is donated, of which approximately 340 thousand to finance the Scudo service for free home oncology care for the Arezzo district. And the proceeds from Sunday will go to the Scudo. The 71st edition of the Mercatino dei Ragazzi, the event that took place in the Eden area between via Spinello, via Guadagnoli and via Niccolò Aretino, was a success. 250 stalls with hundreds of sellers, who started working very early in the morning. And the public did not have to wait, as the market route was already very crowded from the early hours of the morning. In fact, the Arezzo people always answer the call of Calcit and the result was extraordinary: 53,546.60 euros collected, which is not a record only because of the afternoon rain, but which is in line with last year's success.
"A heartfelt thanks goes to all the participants, whose commitment, despite the rain, was essential to achieving the laudable goal. Special appreciation is due to the volunteers of the Police who welcomed the visitors and provided support to the organizers during the event" says Giancarlo Sassoli, president of Calcit. Many school children worked on Sunday together with their parents and all the historical groups. About 500 children were involved, led by the Gamurrini, Leonardo Bruni and Pio Borri schools, then goldsmiths who designed the 2025 medal as a gift to the participants. Lots of sweets sold at the stands of the Referees Section and Casa Thevenin at the Bastioni, here also the shirts of the soccer teams and the plants. The bikes were sold out, and then games, clothing and objects. The women's group and the Santa Firmina group worked, passing through the neighborhoods and blankets of Mani e Cuore. "The proceeds go to the Scudo Service for home oncology care, which costs 340 thousand euros every year and which we want to implement," explains Sassoli.
The Mercatino dei ragazzi on Sunday has been archived, but Calcit will continue non-stop throughout the spring with its thousand events. The «Mercatino in Concerto» started yesterday and is underway at the Circolo artistica di Arezzo with the 31st Rassegna Musicale and the 25th «Gianfranco Barulli» music competition. Hundreds of musicians will perform until May 25th, with a grand finale at the Petrarca theatre with the Calcit orchestra. The next events will also include many open-air markets. The next children's markets are scheduled for Sunday, May 18th in Ponticino and Indicatore and for Sunday, May 25th in Ceciliano. As usual, the proceeds will finance the Scudo service. The Scudo team is made up of 5-6 nurses, a psychologist, a doctor and 4 vehicles, it serves the social health district of Arezzo which also includes Monte San Savino, Badia al Pino, Castiglion Fibocchi, Subbiano and Capolona.
