Liverpool's Portuguese striker dies in car crash in Spain

(LaPresse) Diogo Jota, a 28-year-old Portuguese striker for Liverpool, died in a car accident in the province of Zamora in Spain. The crash occurred on the A-52, near the town of Sanabria. The player was traveling with his brother André, 26, also a professional footballer for Penafiel in Portugal.

The vehicle in which the two were traveling went off the road and caught fire . Diogo Jota leaves behind his wife, whom he married on June 22, with whom he had three children.

Raised in Pacos de Ferreira, he moved to Atletico Madrid and then to Porto and later arrived in England at Wolverhampton, which he helped bring back to the Premier in 2018. With Wolves he established himself and in 2020 he arrived at Liverpool. With the Reds he won five trophies, including the last Premier in 2025. With the Portuguese national team he collected 49 appearances and 14 goals, winning the Nations League twice.
