The top 30 Italian museums: Colosseum first with one hundred million in takings per year (+ 20%), followed by Uffizi and Pompeii

The Colosseum with its archaeological park is increasingly a phenomenon that attracts Italian and foreign visitors . With its almost 15 million visitors (14,733,395) and over 100 million euros in takings (101,902,884.5), it remains the gold medal of the most visited Italian sites and museums in 2024. The record year, according to data from Sistan (the statistics service of the MiC), published on the website of the Ministry of Culture: well over 60 million visitors and (+5.3%) and almost 400 million euros in takings (382,004,344).
On the podium, in second place, are the Uffizi which in 2024 welcomed over 5 million visitors (5,294,968) and reached almost 62 million euros (61,943,626) in revenue. The bronze medal goes to Pompeii whose archaeological park attracted over 4 million visitors (4,267,233), raising over 55 million euros (55,291,542) in ticket sales. At the bottom of the list are the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua (269,698 visitors / 1,797,604 euros), the Castello Scaligero (262,095 / 1,125,880) and theBaths of Caracalla (258,687 / 1,039,119). A special note for the Pantheon which, in the first year in which it was a paid event for all twelve months, comes in just below the podium, in fourth place, with 4,086,947 admissions and 14,712,752 euros in revenue.
"The incessant work we are carrying out with the reorganization and expansion of the spaces in the Gallery of Paintings and Statues and in Palazzo Pitti, the redevelopment of the Boboli Gardens, the reopening of the Vasari Corridor and also an increase in the levels of decorum in all the museum spaces is starting to bear fruit: full steam ahead to make the Galleries even more the best museum complex in the world". This is how the director of the Uffizi Simone Verde commented on the Galleries' second place on the podium of the ranking of results obtained by large state museums and cultural assets in 2024 (behind the Colosseum and ahead of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii), published today on the MiC website.
Evening openings at the sites of the Great Pompeii on May 17th on the occasion of the Night of the Museums. The site of Oplontis with the Villa of Poppea, the Villas of San Marco and Arianna and the Archaeological Museum of Stabia Libero D'Orsi in Castellammare di Stabia, the Villa Regina with Antiquarium in Boscoreale and Pompeii will be accessible from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm with last entry at 10:00 pm at a cost of 1 euro (reductions and free admission as per regulations). In Pompeii the visit is split into two, with a route that includes access to some houses on the eastern side of the ancient city and to the Large Palestra and on the other side to the Villa of the Mysteries, from where you can then reach the site of Boscoreale by shuttle. The cost is 1 euro for each itinerary (online booking recommended).
