Donation to Palazzo Te: the masterpiece Cupid and Psyche shines again

Mantua – The restoration of the Chamber of Love and Psyche , an iconic temple of Giulio Romano’s art in Palazzo Te , is an example of contemporary patronage. The Gonzaga summer residence is celebrating its 500th anniversary. The entire project will be financed by the Milanese Giulio and Giovanna Sacchetti Foundation : the overall restoration will cost 100 thousand euros, will last 10 weeks and will not involve the closure of the room, one of the most visited together with the Giants and the Horses. The work will concern the wooden and pictorial decorations of the ceiling and the lunettes and will begin in a few days. In September, visitors will be able to see the Chamber of Love and Psyche, fresh from the restyling.

"The conservation intervention on the ceiling of the Chamber of Cupid and Psyche is an important step in the program of the 500th anniversary of Palazzo Te - said the director Stefano Baia Curioni - We thank those who make it possible, starting from the Fondazione Giulio e Giovanna Sacchetti Onlus, to include Diamara Parodi Delfino, and the institutions that collaborated, the Municipality of Mantua and the Archaeological Superintendence of Fine Arts".

As soon as I saw the Chamber of Cupid and Psyche, I thought that with my Foundation I would like to do a conservative restoration of this marvel. After the last conservative restoration in the early 1990s, the ceiling of the Chamber of Cupid and Psyche today shows physiological degradation due to the use of the room and the passage of time.
