The meeting in the Province of Como to present the initiative

Como, July 10, 2025 - A roundtable discussion dedicated to analyzing the current economic situation of Como's industrial system, with a particular focus on the manufacturing sector, took place at Villa Saporiti, headquarters of the Como Provincial Administration, with the participation of representatives of the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce, Confindustria Como, and the main local trade unions: CGIL Como and UIL Lario.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to review current dynamics in the region, particularly regarding corporate crisis management.

The Crisis Unit of the Province of Como presented its ongoing activities and outlined its future prospects and objectives. This unit supports businesses and workers experiencing difficulties—particularly in cases of recourse to the Extraordinary Wage Supplementation Fund (Cassa Integrazione Guadagni Straordinaria) or the initiation of collective dismissal procedures—and aims to provide concrete and timely support to all parties, promoting orientation, retraining, and job reintegration programs. Going forward, the Province intends to strengthen the role of the Crisis Unit as a stable listening and mediation center, capable of responding early in the critical phases of business situations, anticipating the emergence of more serious situations and facilitating the development of shared solutions.

"The meeting," emphasized Fiorenzo Bongiasca, President of the Province of Como, "was an important opportunity for dialogue and collaboration with the main economic and trade union groups in the area."

Francesca Polti, Confindustria's vice president for Industrial Relations, added: "The Como industry, particularly the textile and metalworking sectors, is experiencing significant challenges, driven by several factors, necessitating the identification of new organizational and innovative models. The open and constructive dialogue promoted by the Province of Como is an important sign of concern for our productive fabric and the people who are its fundamental resource."

Furthermore, Dario Esposito, Coordinator of UIL Lario, emphasized that "Employment, the lives of workers, cannot be a variable that changes like the cost of energy with the changing seasons. Behind every layoff are faces, stories, people forced to reinvent themselves. Today we have laid the foundation for a joint effort that puts the region's most precious resource at the center: people." Sandro Estelli , General Secretary of CGIL Como, emphasized that "A shared strategy is needed to revitalize manufacturing, develop sustainable tourism, and connect training, innovation, and good employment. Only a joint commitment between institutions, businesses, and unions can build a solid, inclusive production system founded on the dignity of work and the value of people."
