Honorary degree in Naval Engineering to Pierroberto Folgiero

On Tuesday 1 July 2025, at 11:30, the University of Trieste will award the Honorary Master's Degree in Naval Engineering to Pierroberto Folgiero , CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri. The ceremony will be held in the Aula Magna of the Campus in Piazzale Europa in Trieste, an event that celebrates the career of a visionary leader in the industrial and services sector.
The event will open with institutional greetings from the Rector of the University of Trieste, Roberto Di Lenarda . This will be followed by the reading of the motivation by Paolo Gallina , Director of the Department of Engineering and Architecture, and the Laudatio by Alberto Marinò , Full Professor of Naval Construction and Systems. The culminating moment will be the awarding of the degree and the delivery of the diploma to Pierroberto Folgiero, who will then hold his Lectio Magistralis entitled “ L'innovazione cantierabile ”. The ceremony will be enriched by the performance of the Chamber Choir of the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory of Music, directed by Walter Lo Nigro.
The Honorary Degree to Pierroberto Folgiero recognizes a twenty-five-year career studded with top roles in important international groups. Folgiero has significantly contributed to the growth and transformation of various industrial realities:
- Wind (2000-2008): Played a key role in the creation of fixed and mobile telecommunications infrastructures in Italy and abroad, defining a Tower Company model that set a new standard in the sector.
- Tirrenia di Navigazione: He contributed to the restructuring and privatization of the company, an operation that led to the liberalization of the cabotage sector in Italy.
- Maire Tecnimont (2010-2022): As CEO and General Manager since 2013, he promoted Made in Italy worldwide, relaunching a historic company in the chemical sector and transforming it into an international leader in energy transition, hydrogen and the circular economy.
- Fincantieri (since 2022): Currently CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri Group, a global leader in highly complex shipbuilding with 20,000 employees and 18 shipyards worldwide. Here he is leading a corporate transformation focused on evolving the business based on the macro trends of the digital, green and demographic revolution, also exploring promising adjacencies of the core business, such as the underwater sector.
Pierroberto Folgiero is a strong believer in open innovation and osmosis between different sectors. He is actively involved in start-up analysis and selection programs, with a strong interest in developing innovative ideas, new business models and promoting young talents. This award not only celebrates his past successes, but also his continuous drive towards the future and innovation.
