Violence against health workers: Tuscany's best practices invest in inclusion and respect

Over 18,000 assaults on healthcare workers. Approximately 22,000 people involved in 2024. This is the scenario described by the Ministry's Observatory on the safety of healthcare and social healthcare professionals, which also shows that approximately 69% of assaults are perpetrated by patients.
In particular, moving on to the Red Cross area, 67.08% of the attacks against CRI healthcare and social healthcare personnel occurred during ambulance transport. In approximately half of the reported episodes (47.26%) the aggressor was a user. As for the type of violence exercised, in 53.94% of cases it was verbal while in 46.06% it was physical.
It is therefore essential to work on prevention and training against gender violence in the healthcare sector: at the national event Forum Pubblica Amministrazione, the importance of building values also emerged by taking territorial initiatives as a reference.
Two moments of sharing best practices for the prevention of violence, born in Tuscany in the ASL Tse, were in fact presented at the Forum: the Azienda Usl Toscana sud est and the Tuscan regional network of the Codice Rosa, with its manager Vittoria Doretti, were described in two specific sessions.
The first theme was the prevention of violence in all its forms, the second dealt with the issue of combating the phenomenon, starting from the White Paper of the Technical Scientific Committee of which Dr. Doretti is co-author, with the presentation by the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
