To the director - The PNRR is becoming the government's Caporetto . The right did not vote for it in opposition and is not capable of managing it now. Caught between incompetence, arrogance and internal tensions, the executive has wasted more time changing it than implementing it. The provocative words of Senator Borghi who invites the government to take a step back on the funds, as well as those of Giorgetti who is considering an impossible postponement of the deadline beyond 2026, confirm our concerns. The majority has exploded due to the sidereal distances precisely on Europe and foreign policy . How can De Gasperi-style Europeanism and Orbàn- and Le Pen-style Eurosceptic sovereignism coexist in the same majority? The Prime Minister has disappeared and is in enormous difficulty. She no longer puts her face on the Plan, aware of the failure in progress. However, the PNRR is not only an economic asset and the only lever for growth in a blocked country but it is also the political symbol of a new model of European solidarity that the right, in opposition, has always opposed.
Today the crucial issue concerns the evident spending difficulties, after the massive cuts already made to many missions . Not completing fundamental projects in healthcare, schools, railway infrastructure, work, environment means wasting a unique opportunity to relaunch the country, but it also means destroying an essential tool for the future of Europe. This is the meaning of our criticism against the superficiality with which the right is managing the PNRR. We should all work for greater European integration: “Nessun dorma” , as President Mattarella masterfully recalled. Since the government is in catalepsy, the Prime Minister must clearly state which side she is on at the EU and international level: with the Eurosceptic and pro-Putin sovereignists who want to break up the EU or with those who are working to build a new Europe capable of truly being a global economic and political player. We have no doubts about which side of history is right for Italy , unfortunately, we are witnessing the somersaults of a government that is not capable of playing the leading role that should be played by a founding country of a united Europe.
