Giorgio Napolitano, conference in the Senate on the centenary of his birth

On Monday 30 June and Tuesday 1 July, from 9:30 to 18:30, the Sala Capitolare at the Cloister of the Convent of Santa Maria sopra Minerva hosts, on the initiative of Senator Pier Ferdinando Casini, the conference Giorgio Napolitano. Political leader, man of the institutions, President of the Republic, promoted by the Gramsci Foundation, the Italian Institute for Historical Studies and the Giorgio Napolitano Association on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Giorgio Napolitano (1925-2025).
Monday 30 June is dedicated to the theme Political-institutional commitment with the work starting at 9.30 in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella . After the institutional greetings and the introduction of Walter Veltroni, the first session is dedicated to the theme The role in the PCI and the left: chaired by Giuliano Amato and speakers are Michele Ciliberto Croce (Togliatti, the new party), Albertina Vittoria (Commitment in the party and cultural policy), Silvio Pons, Gregorio Sorgonà (The culture of government from the historic compromise to the reformist proposal) and Michele Di Donato (Europeanism and the European left). In the second session, Man of the institutions, chaired by Laura Boldrini, speakers are Alessandro Giacone (The Group Leader), Vincenzo Lippolis (The President of the Chamber), Guido Melis (The Minister of the Interior), Elisabetta Gualmini (Member of the European Parliament and President of the Constitutional Commission) and Luigi Gianniti (The Senator for life). On Tuesday 1st July , dedicated to Napolitano as President of the Republic, the third session focuses on the theme The President of the Republic in the institutional system : chaired by Sabino Cassese and speakers include Nicola Lupo (Relations with Parliament, the regions and local authorities), Giulio Salerno (Formation, life and crisis of governments), Antonella Meniconi (The presidency of the CSM and relations with the judiciary), Chiara Bologna (The protection of presidential prerogatives) and Francesco Clementi (The hope for institutional reforms). The fourth session is dedicated to the theme The President of the Republic in society and international relations : chaired by Livia Turco, speakers include Alessandro Campi (National unity and the journey to Italy on the 150th anniversary), Miguel Gotor (Collective memory: mending wounds), Diletta Tega (The constitutional guarantee of rights and freedoms), Alberto Melloni (Relationship with the Vatican and the Catholic world), Sergio Fabbrini (Relations with the European Union and the member states) and Giampiero Massolo (International relations).
