Interview with Minister Carlo Nordio on judicial reform

"The reform needed to be consistent with the criminal procedural system," Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said in an interview with Tg3.
The reform is a logical resistance to the "accusatory process" advocated by Giuliano Vassalli, a hero of the Resistance, and therefore has no authoritarian agenda. As for the referendum, I hope it doesn't become political, but remains technical.
Open Arms, Nordio: We will not do anything about appeals now. "We will not do anything at this time because it would be inappropriate. The appeals system certainly needs to be reviewed because, in a situation where the principle of conviction beyond a reasonable doubt is enshrined in law, a person who has already been acquitted cannot be convicted. This is the case where one or more judges have already ruled." This is what Minister Nordio said.
On Almasri: extreme respect for the Tribunal of Ministers . "I am under investigation and cannot comment. The investigation is confidential, and I have extreme respect for the Tribunal of Ministers for whatever decision they make," the Justice Minister told Tg3.
Prisons, Nordio: comprehensive plan for at least 10,000 more places. "The first effects should be seen fairly quickly for inmates who have agreed to early release from the supervisory court. For the others, there is a very comprehensive plan that will lead to a significant reduction and an increase in prison capacity of at least 10,000 places." This was Nordio's response to the government's commitment to addressing prison overcrowding.
