Israel attacks Iran, fears of a new escalation. Meloni summons ministers and intelligence

Following Israel's attack on Iran, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is reportedly following the evolution of the crisis with the utmost attention. The Prime Minister has therefore called a video conference meeting for this afternoon with the ministers most involved and with the heads of national intelligence.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has meanwhile called an emergency meeting this morning at the Farnesina crisis unit, dedicated to the conditions of Italian citizens in the Gulf region. The Farnesina has announced this, advising against unnecessary travel to the region and has sent warnings to Italian citizens registered in Iran. Tajani has meanwhile had a telephone conversation with the Italian ambassador to Tehran Paola Amadei .

"I didn't think of an attack so soon," the deputy prime minister declared to Tg1 . "It was a unilateral attack, no other country was involved," added the Farnesina official.

Recalling that he "supported the Iran-United States negotiations with the mediation of Oman to prevent Iran from having the atomic bomb", Tajani addressed an "envoy to everyone for dialogue, a worsening of the military crisis is not good for anyone. Diplomacy must prevail, we will do everything possible to avoid a new war".

''For the moment there are no problems for our fellow countrymen,'' he added, explaining that he ''spoke with our ambassadors in Tehran and Tel Aviv to verify the situation.'' In Iran, the head of the Farnesina explained, ''there are about 450 Italians and they have all been warned and asked not to move. The same goes for Israel where there are many Italians.''

Tajani then ''invited everyone to be extremely cautious'' and to ''avoid travelling to the area, we do not know how the situation will evolve'' which is currently ''extremely tense''.
