Luigi Sbarra, from CISL to the Meloni government against Landini: the very sad end of a trade unionist

The case of the former trade unionist
Never before has a union leader been seen to switch sides so suddenly. Now it will be difficult for the Cisl to regain a dignified position.

The true dream of the right in power is always the same: a country where unions do not exist. Or, alternatively, a country where unions are an expression of the government and power. That is, not only of the majority parties but in general of the establishment and the bourgeoisie. It has always been like this. In truth, it has always been like this even in communist regimes. The most insidious enemy for Gomulka 's Poland , but also for Brezhnev 's Russia , was a certain Lech Walesa , the unionist who had brought the conflict to the factories of Danzig and thrown the regime into crisis.
That's right. Regimes don't like independent unions. That is, those that represent workers and not political interests. The Italian right, today, has an enemy more enemy than all. His name is Maurizio Landini and against him any means is good. Journalistic campaigns, political attacks, blocking contracts, head-on confrontation. There are many tools to fight a confrontational union. One of these is to swallow up another union that agrees to submit to power and then fights against the workers' unions. This is what the Meloni government did. It won over the general secretary of the Cisl Luigi Sbarra , used him against Landini, hurled him against the minimum wage and against the referendum for the abolition of the Jobs Act.
Having done his part, Sbarra left the union. In February. Only four months in the antechamber and then he entered the government, without intermediate steps. Greeted with applause. Never before had the head of a union passed so suddenly to the side of the opposing party. Miserable end, poor guy. Now for the Cisl, the legendary union of Macario, Carniti, Storti, Pezzotta, Marini, it will be complicated to regain a dignified position.
