Marche Regional Elections: Former fencer Trillini is running for Acquaroli.

Ancona, August 26, 2025 – An Olympic champion for Francesco Acquaroli: the first 'VIP' in the running in these elections is the Jesi-born clean-ricercaione Giovanna Trillini , who is now officially in the running for the upcoming regional elections in the Marche: her name, in fact, appears among the candidates of the civic list 'I Marchigiani per Acquaroli' in the Ancona constituency.

The fencer, who grew up at the Jesi Fencing Club with coach Ezio Triccoli, won the Italian overall title at just 16, launching an extraordinary career . At the Olympics, she won four gold medals, one silver, and three bronze, becoming the first female fencer to medal in five consecutive editions , from Barcelona 1992 to Beijing 2008.

These successes are complemented by nine world titles and four World Cups. In 2008, he received the honor of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. A journey—as the 'I Marchigiani per Acquaroli' list recalls—"that starts in Vallesina and reaches the top of the world, a symbol of pride for the Marche region and for Italy." The Marche region will go to the polls on September 28th and 29th .

This is, therefore, another Jesi athlete who has sided with the center-right following Roberto 'Mancio' Mancini 's endorsement—and the inevitable controversy that followed—of Acquaroli. Trillini is therefore attempting a political venture, just like her historic foil rival Valentina Vezzali , also from Jesi, who was elected to the Chamber of Deputies on Mario Monti's 'Scelta civica per l'Italia' list in 2013; in March 2021, she was appointed undersecretary for sport in the Draghi government. Vezzali subsequently joined Forza Italia, but was not elected.
