The Prime Minister at the celebrations for the display in Parliament of the bag belonging to the anti-mafia judge: "My political commitment began the day after the massacre in via d'Amelio. From there, a popular movement began that said no to illegality"

" I have said many times that I began my political commitment the day after the massacre on Via Amelio. 33 years have passed. I retain the memory of those images and that sudden sense of urgency, the feeling that there was no point in feeling anger if you couldn't transform that anger into mobilization. That day began the journey that led me to become Prime Minister ." This was said by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the celebrations for the first exhibition, in the Chamber of Deputies, of the bag that belonged to the magistrate killed by Cosa Nostra and that Borsellino had with him on July 19, 1992, the day of the massacre on Via d'Amelio. A commemoration attended by the highest offices of the state, from the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber, Ignazio La Russa and Lorenzo Fontana.

"Today we are writing a page in the history of Parliament. Thanks to those who allowed one of the objects dearest to Paolo Borsellino to find a place in the heart of our democracy and become a visible symbol and therefore a warning", said Meloni. According to whom the attack 33 years ago "did not only motivate me but also many others who decided to get involved from that mafia massacre. From those massacres a popular movement started that said no to the illegality with which the mafia wanted to condemn Italy". For this reason, the Prime Minister continued in her speech, 33 years later the baton of Paolo Borsellino's lesson "is still strong". The Prime Minister also wanted to thank the work carried out by the parliamentary Anti-Mafia commission, which in recent months has continued with an investigative work regarding the massacre of via d'Amelio. " Every effort to know that truth must be supported. We must continue with tireless research to shed light on the still dark pages of those years of our history ", added Meloni.
