Mother Trentini: 'Meloni is silent about our son.'

Today marks exactly eight months that my son Alberto has been in prison, but everything is silent, including our Prime Minister. This silence is unbearable for me and my family. Our government must take action, as the Swiss government did with my son's prisoner, who was recently released and spoke to the press about the terrible conditions Alberto is still being held in.
Armanda Trentini, the mother of the young man detained in Venezuela since last November, stated this while speaking outside the Rome courthouse where a new hearing in the Giulio Regeni murder trial is scheduled for today.
"We can wait no longer. Our institutions must demonstrate that they care about the life of a fellow citizen and must work urgently and effectively to bring our son home, using every diplomatic means possible, as has been done in other cases. Every additional day of inaction means unspeakable suffering for Alberto and for us. There is no contact, and we are confidently waiting for someone to do what is necessary. Eight months is too long, and we must rebel," he added.
Schlein: 'The government must make a concrete commitment'"We continue to ask, as we have done in recent months, for every effort to secure the release of Alberto Trentini, who is guilty of no fault other than his generosity in going out into the world to help those most in need." This is according to Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein, who this morning took part in the sit-in outside the Rome courthouse where the hearing for the Regeni murder is scheduled. Also attending was Alberto Trentini, the Italian aid worker imprisoned since last November.
"This silence," he added, "cannot continue. We need a concrete commitment from the government and everyone in power. We are doing our part to secure Alberto's release. Eight months have passed, and the Swiss government has committed to the release of those who were imprisoned with Alberto Trentini and has spoken of the unspeakable suffering inside this prison. This situation cannot be tolerated another minute. We reiterate our call to the government to commit."
