Politics divided, the non-voting party grows

Tensions are rising over the referendums. The joint statement signed by Angelo Bonelli, Giuseppe Conte, Nicola Fratoianni and Elly Schlein with which the opposition leaders announce their participation in the initiative promoted by the Cgil "Voting is freedom" is interpreted by the center-right as a desperate attempt to raise the bar. "They will never reach the quorum, on June 8 and 9 the opposition will suffer a clear defeat", says a leading figure in the government coalition who claims the choice of abstention. The leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, announces that he has no intention of going to vote. And so will the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Francesco Lollobrigida. "Our line is not to talk about it", reiterates a 'big' of the alliance led by Giorgia Meloni. But the opposition insists, also in the wake of the appeal by Agcom which called on radio and TV to guarantee adequate coverage of the referendum consultation. The topic is not among the questions prepared by the minority for the premier time that will be held tomorrow in Montecitorio. Più Europa would have liked to relaunch it, but according to the rules it will have to 'give way' to the other component of the Mixed group, the linguistic minorities. In any case, a new clash is expected between the prime minister and the leaders of the PD and M5S Elly Schlein and Giuseppe Conte, as already happened during the last meeting in January 2024. The prime minister will underline, after what was said last week in the Senate, other qualifying points of the executive and in the meantime he is working to consolidate the majority on the next dossiers on the agenda. Among these, the one on the electoral law remains 'open'
