Presidential elections in Romania: Simion to ask for the annulment of the vote

Presidential elections in Romania: Simion to ask for the annulment of the vote

Nationalist candidate George Simion , of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, defeated in the second round of Romania's presidential election on Sunday, has announced his intention to appeal to annul the elections due to "external interference", in particular from France.

“I officially ask the Constitutional Court to annul the elections,” he wrote on X. “For the same reasons” that led to the annulment of the November vote: “External interference,” he added, in a message accompanied by the flags of France and Moldova.

Simion said that Moldova and France had intervened to "buy votes, and that deceased people would vote in the presidential runoff on May 18." According to the final results released yesterday by the electoral commission in Bucharest, the centrist and pro-European mayor of the capital Nicușor Dan has won the runoff with 53.6% of the votes compared to 46.4% for Simion.
