Schlein: “Unworthy of La Russa encouraging abstention from referendums”

"It is very serious that the right continues to encourage abstention in the referendum and it is truly unworthy that the second highest office of the State does so. The words of Ignazio La Russa are also serious because they betray one of the constitutional principles that establish voting as a civic duty". This is what the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein states.

"But the far right in government has amply demonstrated that it does not care about these principles, rights and work. The best possible response to this drift is for everyone to go and vote on June 8 and 9 to fight precariousness and for citizenship."

La Russa, a guest at the right-wing culture festival in Florence on Friday, commented on the upcoming referendums: “Maybe I’ll go and vote, but I’ll do propaganda so that people stay at home.”
