In recent days, the topic of the final exam has returned to the forefront of public debate after some students decided to boycott the oral exam in protest. Following these incidents, Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara intervened forcefully, announcing a drastic decision.

Valditara's statements concern two specific incidents that occurred in Veneto, involving a male and female final-year student. Gianmaria Favaretto, from Padua, explained to local media that he refused the oral exam , convinced by the 62 points he earned in the written tests, to challenge the grading method. Similarly, Maddalena Bianchi, a high school student from Belluno, told Corriere della Sera that she had prepared a critical speech to teachers, denouncing what she felt was wrong with the school system.

"Among the reforms we are about to launch is a reform of the final exam system. Behaviors of this kind will no longer be possible ," the minister declared to Rai News 24.

The rebellion of some students , who, having earned enough points in the written tests, choose to remain silent during the final exam oral exam as a form of protest, may already be over. The minister explained that anyone who fails to show up for the oral exam or deliberately chooses not to answer the teachers' questions, not due to lack of preparation but with the intent to boycott the exam, will have to repeat the year.

In an interview with Fanpage , Minister Valditara explained that the reform of the final exam will retain the same weighting as the oral exam in the final grade. The evaluation, she emphasized, will take into account not only answers to specific topics like logarithms or Ungaretti, but also the student's overall level of development. It will be important to demonstrate autonomy, responsibility, and integral personal development, which will be considered in the final grade.

Regarding the implementation of these changes starting next school year, the minister added that work is underway to achieve this.
