When and why De Luca became 'Sheriff': the anecdote told by the President of Campania

We saw a very emotional Vincenzo De Luca at the awarding of honorary citizenship to Ruvo del Monte , his hometown. The President of the Campania Region also received the keys to the town from Mayor Pietro Mira on July 12th . For the occasion, De Luca recalled his origins. The governor recounted that his father, like many other residents of the Lucanian community, had emigrated to Venezuela . He returned to Italy when the future politician was already born, and then moved with his entire family to Salerno .

When De Luca became 'Sheriff'

But it all began when female traffic wardens were attacked and threatened with knives by some illegal parking attendants. " I discovered at the time ," De Luca stated, " that municipal police officers were allowed to carry firearms but not truncheons. To use them, I would have had to ask for authorization from the Ministry of the Interior.

The fluorescent batons

I ordered 250 of them, and in the resolution they were designated as urban signaling devices, since they could be seen in the dark.
