Okay Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip 7's display is right this time

NEW YORK – With the Galaxy Z Flip 7 – presented in Brooklyn at Galaxy Unpacked, which also launched the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 – Samsung finally fills a gap that seemed inexplicable: the external display of the foldable clamshell takes up almost the entire available surface, eliminating the conspicuous bezels that still remained on the previous model.
It's a choice that marks a clear change of pace and brings the Flip 7 closer to the best foldables on the market, first and foremost the Motorola Razr , which has long offered an extended external screen with apps optimised to be used without necessarily having to open the phone.
External screen finally “borderless”The external display of the new Galaxy Z Flip 7 goes from 3.4 to 4.1 inches , with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2600 nits brightness, the same as the internal screen.
The extra space allows for more practical use of smart features: Now Brief displays the weather, appointments, and smart notifications; Now Bar lets you interact directly from the lock screen with timers, music, and navigation. Like the Fold7, One UI 8 is also present here, with new emojis and wallpapers designed for the foldable nature of the device.
Internal display and solidity, two strong pointsThe internal display increases from 6.7 to 6.9 inches, with a 21:9 ratio .
The Flip 7 is slightly wider when unfolded than the Flip 6, making it look more like a traditional smartphone.
The weight and thickness remain similar to the previous model: the robustness you feel when holding this phone in your hand, in our opinion, remains one of its strong points. The hinge, now waterproof, is thinner. But the crease in the internal display is still noticeable.
The battery takes a step forward, the cameras are (almost) identical to the pastThe battery improves from 4,000 to 4,300 mAh , with 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The chip is a 3nm Exynos 2500, designed by Samsung to offer performance similar to the Fold's Snapdragon.
The cameras remain 50 MP (main) and 12 MP (ultra wide), while the 10 MP selfie cam benefits from the same sensors as the S25 series.
They improve photo and video quality - says Samsung - also thanks to the Pro Visual Engine , a set of algorithms enhanced by artificial intelligence and designed by the South Korean company to improve the performance of photos and videos in real time, both during shooting and during the processing phase.
Galaxy AI, playing it safeAnd then there's Galaxy AI, introduced with the Galaxy S24 series and now further refined: it obviously allows you to edit or remove elements from a photo with a tap, to improve the audio of videos with Audio Eraser – a function that isolates the human voice in noisy environments, introduced with the S25 series – and to search the web for anything that passes on the screen thanks to Google's “ Circle to Search ” function – well-established on previous models.
Compared to the Flip 6, the Galaxy AI doesn't make any dramatic improvements from what was announced with the Galaxy S25. Samsung is pushing hard on the integration of Gemini Live , Google's artificial intelligence that can now comment on what the camera sees with a synthetic voice, or offer real-time information on what's happening on the split screen.
But Gemini Live isn't exclusive to Samsung's new foldables.
Anyone who downloads the Gemini app to their phone, whether it's an Android or iOS device, can have a voice conversation with Google's AI.
Speaking of the operating system: the Galaxy Z Flip 7 – like the Z Fold 7 – ships directly with Android 16 and One UI 8 , which is a version of One UI 7 optimized for foldable devices.
Galaxy Z Flip 7, prices and colorsPrices remain unchanged from the list prices with which the Galaxy Z Flip 6 was released a year ago: €1,279 for the model with 256 GB of memory and €1,399 for the larger 512 GB model.
The colorways are more vibrant than in the past: in addition to Jet Black, there are Jet Blue, Coral Red and the Mint version (the latter is an online exclusive).
Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, the affordable foldable phoneThe final surprise at Galaxy Unpacked is the new Fan Edition: Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE , where the final two letters stand for “ Fan Edition ”.
This is a less expensive version of the new Flip 7 that follows the exact same design as the Flip 6 but introduces new colors – black and white – 8 GB of RAM and the Exynos 2400 processor (released last year).
The main camera is 50 MP, there is Galaxy AI and everything is designed to offer a first contact with the foldable world at a more accessible price: 1,069 euros for the 128 GB memory model and 1,129 euros for the 256 GB one.
