Urban Sustainability: ReSMART Index is Born, the New Certification for Smart and Inclusive Neighborhoods

The real estate sector and urban planning welcome an important innovation: the ReSMART Index, the new certification created by Planet Smart City in collaboration with ARUP Italia and certified by ASACERT. The initiative, launched on June 26 at Factory NoLo in Milan with hundreds of participants in attendance and over a thousand professionals connected remotely, testifies to the growing interest of the sector in advanced tools to evaluate the urban quality, sustainability and level of "intelligence" of real estate projects on a district scale.

The ReSMART Index stands out for its innovative approach, based on a proprietary algorithm that analyzes over 200 parameters . These indicators go beyond traditional metrics, focusing on crucial aspects such as energy efficiency, water management, technological innovation, social inclusion and design quality . The system provides for the attribution of three levels of certification: Certified, Merit and Mastery, offering a clear scale for evaluating the sustainability and intelligence of neighborhoods.

Fabrizio Capaccioli, CEO of ASACERT, underlined the importance of this new tool : " The ReSMART Index represents a turning point in the evaluation of real estate developments: it introduces an innovative model that goes beyond traditional performance indicators, to focus on the technological, infrastructural and social endowment of projects. The enthusiasm gathered on the occasion of the launch confirms how much the market today needs serious, structured and transparent tools. Pietro Putetto, CEO of Planet Smart City – Advisory, highlighted the birth of a new generation of real estate certification systems : " With the launch of the ReSMART Index, a new generation of real estate certification systems is born. No longer just energy, environment and connectivity, but also and above all a complete vision of innovation applied to the neighborhood scale, which measures with objective parameters the improvement in the quality of living of the communities of residents. After having created this new tool, we are now ready to start training future ReSMART Experts, qualified professionals for the evaluation of residential and mixed-use developments. We will start in the fall with basic and advanced courses throughout Italy, which will be extended to the rest of the world from next year". This announcement opens up new opportunities for professionalization in the sector ".

Stefano Recalcati, Project Director of ARUP, highlighted the digital and collaborative nature of the index : " ReSMART is a digital and interactive index, co-created by Planet Smart City and Arup, to evaluate the performance of real estate developments by focusing on technological innovation combined with social components. It represents a new frontier in evaluation tools in the real estate sector ."

During the launch event, the world's first ReSMART certificate was awarded to the Smart City Aquiraz project, currently under construction in Fortaleza, Brazil. This is a residential district that includes 2,800 homes and 55 innovative solutions . Among these, a community app to facilitate interaction between residents, community management activities, shared spaces to encourage socialization, urban gardens to promote self-sufficiency and sustainability, microhabitats for wildlife, air quality monitoring systems and smart lighting stand out. This pilot project embodies the vision of neighborhoods that are not only efficient, but also inclusive and attentive to the well-being of residents.

The ReSMART Index therefore aims to become a global benchmark for building smarter, more sustainable and liveable urban communities, laying the foundation for a new era in real estate development.
