Another trophy for the young Toro: Under 17 champions of Italy! Milan beaten on penalties

Another trophy for the young Toro: Under 17 champions of Italy! Milan beaten on penalties

Two scudetti in the space of a week: the youth finals become a real triumph for Torino, who after celebrating with the Under 18s also sew the tricolor of the Under 17s on their shirts, succeeding Roma in the roll of honor. Fabio Rebuffi's Granata beat Milan 5-4 on penalties in the final in Frosinone (0-0 after extra time) and thus conquer a title never seen before for the club in the current format of the competition (the last success in the pre-professional era dates back to 1980). In the penalty shootout, Toro thanks Cereser who saves from Borsani and then finds the net with all his shooters. Lastly, the little gem Andrea Luongo – also a protagonist in blue – who coolly converts the decisive penalty and sparks the celebrations. Milan, who managed to resist despite being numerically inferior for a long time due to Vechiu's red card, are left with the regret of hitting the post and the crossbar with the same number of players.

In the first 45 minutes, honestly, Milan did more to unlock it: Cereser denied the Rossoneri the lead both in the 8th minute by saving Lontani's header, and in the 12th minute by coming out to La Mantia's feet. After the sprint start, however, Milan took a risk on Reynheim's excellent personal initiative: the Faroe Islands striker started from the three-quarter line, skipped past Cullotta and unleashed a great shot from the edge that Pittarella had to tip over the crossbar. However, it was the only flash of brilliance for the Granata until half-time. Milan came within inches of scoring again in the half-hour, with La Mantia heading the ball into the post on one of the interesting balls offered by Tartaglia's left foot. In the 43rd minute, however, a defensive deflection by Cantarella allowed the Granata to take refuge in a corner, defending a precious draw at the end of the first half.

At the start of the second half, Rebuffi – who made a lot of turnover, in order to better manage his energy after the semi-final – throws in Bonacina and Luongo, but the theme of the match does not seem to change. With a great play in the area by Lontani (16 goals this season) Milan hits the woodwork again, in this case a full crossbar from close range. In the 62nd minute, however, the wind changes: Vechiu, already cautioned, is naive in holding the newly entered Bonacina in midfield. Milan are down to ten men and Toro physiologically take control of the operations in the last half hour, without however managing to land the useful blow to avoid extra time. The defense of Renna's boys is methodical and orderly, allowing only one great opportunity for the Granata with the header by Falasca (a striker inserted during the game) who fails to find the target from a good position. Thus we arrive at the end of regulation time.

In extra time, little happens: fatigue is felt - despite the many changes - and the teams stretch out. Torino risks from a disciplinary point of view on a slap by Lebrino that is not sanctioned, then fails to find the winning deflections with Falasca in the first half and with the incursion of Carrascosa in the second half. In the 117th minute, however, Milan has a huge goal opportunity, with the opponents unbalanced after having taken a corner kick in the other half of the field: it is Pisati who finds himself one-on-one with Cereser, but Mukerjee is very good at recovering in the running duel, disturbing him in the execution of the shot. In the penalty shootout, as reported, Torino is more precise and concludes in glory. The Granata president, Urbano Cairo, highlighted the performance of the young Torino players: "I'm happy, I saw the match and the penalties with Baroni and Vagnati. Winning in this championship is very important, it is the testimony of a deep work done in the youth sector. Congratulations to mister Rebuffi's boys, to Ludergnani and his staff for the great work done! And also to Vagnati who brought me Ludergnani four years ago singing his praises!". "Losing a final like this hurts a lot - the hot comment of the Milan coach Giovanni Renna - but the real failure would be to lose faith in the talent of our boys and we will not allow this. Congratulations to my boys, for the path taken and for the tenacity and strength shown even today despite being numerically inferior".
