BARI – News that strikes the heart of the world of rugby in Puglia and Southern Italy: Grazio Menga , a historic sports manager and point of reference for the entire oval movement in Southern Italy, has passed away. Menga, who had been ill for some time, passed away today, leaving a great human and sporting void. A passionate and tireless figure, Menga dedicated his life to rugby. In over twelve years of service in the Puglia Committee of the Italian Rugby Federation, he was first a Councilor, then President for two terms, making a decisive contribution to the growth of rugby in Puglia. "Grazio Menga never failed in his commitment," Leo Amoruso, current President of FIR Puglia, recalled with emotion. "He fought until the end to promote rugby in the South, with a passion that will remain an example for all of us."
During his presidency, Menga relaunched the youth teams, in particular enhancing women's rugby. Under his leadership, Puglia hosted prestigious events such as the U20 Men's Six Nations match in Bari and the arrival of the Italian National Team in Lecce. In his role as Federal Councilor with responsibility for the "Southern Project", he continued to work with determination, even during his illness, to bring resources and visibility to the rugby clubs of Southern Italy. His commitment helped transform Puglia into a solid and respected reality in the national rugby scene.
Former player, coach, manager and trainer, Grazio Menga was also known for his humanity and ability to unite people. For many, he was not only a point of reference in sport, but also a friend, a mentor, an example of integrity and dedication. In his memory, the Puglia Regional Committee of the FIR announces a series of events and meetings dedicated to young people, with the aim of continuing the path of growth and inclusion that Menga had traced. Puglia rugby loses a leader, but preserves a moral and sporting legacy that will continue to inspire new generations.
