Lorenzo Bruni
Prato, July 17, 2025 – Lorenzo Bruni scored a brace to round out the Italian water polo team's 28-4 rout of South Africa in the past few hours. With this latest victory, the Italian water polo team finished the group stage of the Singapore World Championships in first place, qualifying directly for the quarterfinals. The water polo player from Prato, who scored a hat trick in his first match (and victory) against Romania last Saturday (celebrating the birth of his second son, Ludovico, in style), also scored in the second match of the premier intercontinental tournament against Serbia. He scored a goal against the Serbian team, with the match ending 13-13. A penalty shootout was therefore needed to determine the winner, and in the end, the Azzurri, coached by Alessandro Campagna, prevailed (with a 17-16 scoreline after the shootout). And in the third match, Lorenzo also shone: together with his teammates, he will now focus on the knockout stage, which will see the Azzurri face the winner of the round of 16 match between Brazil and Greece on July 20th at 10:00 a.m. The thirty-one-year-old from Prato is dreaming of what would be his third World Championship medal, following the silver medals he won in 2022 and 2024. And at this rate, there's plenty of room to truly continue dreaming.
