Fiorentina, The Midnight Coup - Not just Sohm, a new name emerges in midfield.

Eric Martel, the Cologne midfielder, has ended up in Fiorentina's sights.
Florence, July 22, 2025 - Before making any moves on the transfer market, Fiorentina must trim its squad. Two names top the list of redundant players: M'Bala Nzola and Jonathan Ikoné . Sporting director Daniele Pradè is seeking accommodations for both, aiming to free up space and resources. Nzola is in high demand on loan: Pisa, Genoa, and Parma have all expressed interest. Parma, among other clubs, has also been in talks with midfielder Sohm , whom we'll discuss later. Ikoné's situation is even more complicated: Pisa, Cremonese, and Torino are all eyeing him—the latter having recently returned to the fray. But there's a significant contractual issue: with his contract expiring in 2026, a renewal would first be necessary to loan him out with an option to buy (similar to his transfer to Como last January). Alternatively, we will have to wait for a definitive offer, but at the moment there is nothing on the horizon.
Meanwhile, a certainty seems to be emerging on the renewal front: Rolando Mandragora is close to signing . A decisive meeting is expected this weekend. Pradè, after several telephone conversations, has taken time to fine-tune his offer and await Rocco Commisso 's approval. The agreement is expected to extend until 2029, with a salary of around €2 million per season. Optimism has been percolating for several days now.
On the incoming transfer market, Fiorentina is awaiting the development of negotiations with Parma for Sohm (a meeting is expected to determine whether the parties can reach an agreement), while the names of Kessié and Asllani remain in the background. However, a new prospect has emerged: Eric Martel , a 2002-born midfielder from Cologne , captain of the German Under-21 team at the last European Championship. His contract expires in 2026 and he will not renew his contract and is seeking a new challenge to raise the bar. His price tag is around €10 million, a figure that falls within Fiorentina's budget for the midfielder. What is certain is that the incoming transfer market will not end with a midfielder, but Pradè and Goretti are also looking for a more talented midfielder and a striker, regardless of Beltran's future. The names to keep in mind are Sebastiano Esposito and Cristian Volpato .
Meanwhile, the team is awaiting answers from the training camp regarding the role of Dodo's assistant. Sottil was tested in that position in the second half of the Primavera test, but they expect tougher opponents and—most importantly—the recovery of Fortini , still struggling with some aches and pains from last season.
