Giovanni Martusciello, the return to the Nerazzurri: he will be Cristian Chivu's assistant at Inter

On the day Cristian Chivu begins his third life at Inter - from treble winner to youth coach and now first team leader - the club completes the staff that will accompany him in the new Nerazzurri era. And the choice for the role of assistant coach falls on a name of great experience and reliability: Giovanni Martusciello .
A career intertwined with the great names of football
Martusciello, 53, originally from Lacco Ameno, is a well-known face on the Italian football scene, especially for his long tenure alongside Maurizio Sarri. From Empoli to Naples, from Juventus to Lazio, Martusciello has been the silent but decisive mind in many of the stages that have marked the path of the Tuscan coach. He has shared successes with him, including the 2020 Scudetto with Juventus , and delicate moments, such as Sarri's sudden farewell to Lazio, when Martusciello himself sat on the Biancoceleste bench as head coach for a few days.
The return to Inter
It is not the first time that Martusciello has crossed the gates of Pinetina. In 2017 he had already been part of the technical staff of Inter under the guidance of Luciano Spalletti, before returning to Sarri's side two years later. Now, after his last experience as head coach at Salernitana, which ended with a dismissal in November 2024, Martusciello has chosen a new chapter: an important challenge as assistant to Chivu , who is preparing to lead Inter in a period of post-Inzaghi renewal.
A quality deputy for Chivu
The Nerazzurri management had no doubts: in such a crucial moment, an expert coach was needed, capable of supporting and directing Chivu through the complexities of Serie A and international competitions. Martusciello represents exactly this: a figure of balance, preparation and silent leadership . The technical staff will be completed by Mario Cecchi, a tactician confirmed by the previous Inzaghi management, and by Angelo Palombo, a historic collaborator of Chivu since the Parma days. The choice of athletic trainer also looks back to the past: Stefano Rapetti, already with Mourinho at the Inter of the Treble and then alongside the Special One between Roma and Fenerbahce.
