Italian triumph in Hamburg: Cobolli wins singles, Bolelli-Vavassori doubles
Flavio Cobolli won the Bitpanda Hamburg Open, an ATP 500 tournament currently being played on clay courts in Hamburg. The Italian tennis player, number 35 in the ATP ranking, beat the Russian Andrey Rublev, number 17 in the world, in the final in two sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 29 minutes of play.
For Cobolli it is the second title of his career after the victory in Bucharest last April over Sebastian Baez. For Italy it is the 102nd Open title, the fourth of the year after Sinner in Melbourne, Cobolli in Bucharest and Darderi in Marrakech. In the ranking next Monday Cobolli will be number 26 in the world, his new best ranking.
“It's the best moment of my career,” Cobolli said at the end of the match, “and the most beautiful match I've ever played. My whole family is here, I didn't expect to play so well. I can't describe the happiness I feel. It's a dream come true.”
Cobolli ensures Italy the fifth title in the history of the Hamburg tournament, whose first edition dates back to 1892. In 1960 Nicola Pietrangeli won, in 1977 Paolo Bertolucci, in 2013 Fabio Fognini and in 2022 Lorenzo Musetti.
Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori dominate 6-4 6-0 the Argentine Andres Molteni and the Brazilian Fernando Romboli, and celebrate the title at the Bitpanda Hamburg Open, the ATP 500 of Hamburg . First Italian couple in the final in the men's doubles tournament in the Open era , today in fourth place in the Doubles Race, Bolelli and Vavassori have won their sixth title together.
