Roma say their new buy Leon Bailey suffered a 'myotendinous injury of the right rectus femoris' on Wednesday and needs 'further diagnostic tests' to determine the exact extent of the problem.
Bailey suffered an injury in his first training session at Roma on Wednesday, just a few hours after the club announced his loan move from Aston Villa.
On Thursday morning, the Giallorossi released an official statement on the player's condition.
Official Roma statement on Bailey injury
“Leon Bailey sustained a suspected myotendinous injury of the right rectus femoris at the end of a training session on Wednesday, August 20,” Roma said.
“The player will undergo further diagnostic tests to determine the exact extent of the injury in the coming hours.
“Bailey has already begun rehabilitation treatment at the Fulvio Bernardini training centre.”
Bailey expected to miss Serie A Rounds 1 and 2
It is still unclear how long Bailey will be forced out of action for, but according to several Italian sources, including Calciomercato.com, it is unlikely that the Jamaica international will be available for the first two games of the season.
Roma will make their 2025-26 Serie A debut on August 23 against Bologna, while the second league game is away at Pisa on August 30.
Roma have also signed Evan Ferguson to strengthen their attack this summer and remain in talks with Manchester United for Jadon Sancho.
