Padel Illumia Cup: Toni and Ceccarelli party
Bologna, 29 June 2025 – Once again them , once again Luca Toni and Luca Ceccarelli, to engrave their names on the Illumia Padel Cup for the third year in a row. Strong and solid, physically and mentally, but above all tested: par excellence the couple to beat, also in this 2025.
The ones who paid the price, this time, were the Cristiano Doni-Pesce duo, stopped at the most beautiful moment after having eliminated Bobo Vieri and the former rossoblù Stefano Torrisi in the semi-final, after two days of energy and fun. Footballers (32 to be exact, with the prerogative of having at least one appearance in one of the top 5 European championships), but first and foremost friends, today successful 'padel players'.
Like the Illumia Padel Cup , which this weekend, for the fourth edition in a row, returned to light up the Country Club of Castenaso, with bandeja, smash and volley shots, with balls flying from one side of the court to the other, strong and decisive, like when once the same players, but with the ball at their feet, tried to break through the doors of Europe and the world.
From Totti to Vieri , legends of a football that today is hard to find, from Toni to De Rossi , from Di Canio to Candela, up to the most 'recent' Papu Gomez, who also seems to have found the same confidence with the racket as when he played in Gasperini's stellar Atalanta attack.
Toni-Ceccarelli therefore has yet another Champions League in their trophy cabinet (the competitions within the tournament have in fact traditionally taken the names of the great club cups), while the duo Massimo Maccarone-Nicola Pozzi triumphed in the Europa League. The Coppa Italia, on the other hand, was secured by Papu Gomez and Nicola Amoruso. And confirmations also arrived in the women's category, with the now 'usual' Francesca Piccinini, this year paired with Laura Calvo, proving to be the opponent to beat, just like when she forcefully dunked beyond the volleyball wall.
"This project, born four years ago thanks to the friendship and passion for padel that I share with Marco Bernardi, Andrea Lanzoni and Mario Trebbi, continues to excite us as much as the first day. After three spectacular editions, we have been able to bring back to the field that unique energy that only this tournament can create", commented happily the former rossoblù playmaker Tomas Locatelli , creator, mind and heart of the tournament.
An adventure that began in 2022 and continues with great enthusiasm and participation. A Sunday to remember at Country, in the wake of an intense Saturday of laughter and battles on the field, but also of special moments, such as the gala dinner for the fundraiser for Mongolfiera ODV, in favor of families with children with disabilities. "This year too we had the privilege of being part of this extraordinary project, which saw us alongside Illumia for the fourth consecutive year and which since the birth of our association, has concretely supported us in our daily commitment alongside families of children with disabilities", commented Davide De Santis, president of La Mongolfiera ODV.
