Pallacanestro Cantù, double celebration: after Serie A, the new arena awaited for 40 years

Cantù, 15 June 2025 – In its glorious history, Pallacanestro Cantù has collected many cups and titles, but few have the flavour of the promotion to Serie A regained on Friday evening against Rimini.
A dream that brought back to heaven a city where basketball is “the sport” par excellence and where the other night they celebrated all night. “It has been a very long journey and full of emotions: welcome back to Serie A Pallacanestro Cantù! – the tribute from Cantù Arena –. Proud to be at your side on this journey. Now it’s up to us to bring you home”.

A commitment that is worth the promotion because the next undertaking to be carried out in the city is the construction of the new Sports Hall, awaited in Cantù for over 40 years.
Work began in recent months and the goal is to cut the ribbon by October next year, in time for the start of the new Serie A championship.
MoneyThe investment for the construction of the new sports hall will be approximately 50.5 million euros : 40 granted by a pool of credit institutions composed of Istituto per il Credito Sportivo e Culturale, Intesa Sanpaolo, Finlombarda and Bcc Cantù, to which are added another 11 million of public funds guaranteed by the Municipality (7 million euros) and the Region (4 million).
There will be not only the 5,200-seat arena, but also a training field with a 150-seat grandstand , an outdoor court for 3-on-3 basketball , as well as a commercial building and another dedicated to catering. A structure of almost 28 thousand square meters capable of hosting sporting events, but also concerts, conferences and fairs for a concession value estimated at 345 million euros.

In recent weeks, the project was awarded by Coni with recognition in the Icsc sports facilities section for innovative construction and financial works. “A recognition that rewards not only a vision, but also the determination and ability to create a system,” Mayor Alice Galbiati emphasized. “Cantù Arena is not just a construction project. It is a challenge born in the heart of a community that, too often in the past, has seen similar dreams shatter. Today, Cantù is the first municipality in Italy to have built a sports facility by applying the Stadium Law in its entirety.”

Meanwhile, this afternoon, at 6pm, in Piazza Garibaldi , the players, coach Brienza and the technical staff are expected together with the company leaders to receive the embrace of thousands of fans after the feat of promotion.
