Porto's sporting director Jorge Costa dies at 53.

Portuguese football is in mourning . At 53, Porto's sporting director Jorge Costa has died of cardiac arrest.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the man felt ill while he was at the team's training center in Olival around lunchtime.

Costa was immediately rescued and taken to hospital, where he died in the early afternoon.

The coach had just given an interview with a local TV station before losing consciousness, and his condition immediately appeared very serious, so much so that he required transport to the Sao Joao hospital in Porto, where doctors also used a defibrillator, but to no avail.

The sporting director has dedicated his entire professional career to Porto, first as a player and then as a manager. He has made 383 appearances for the Portuguese club, scoring 25 goals, and also made 50 appearances for Portugal, scoring two goals.

With Porto he won eight national titles and a Champions League, a UEFA Cup and an Intercontinental Cup.
