Premier Padel Roma, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay earn the final and 60 minutes are enough

Premier Padel Roma, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay earn the final and 60 minutes are enough

Everything was easy for the world number 2 pair, who reached the final at the BNL Italy Major (the eighth of the season) by solving the challenge against the surprises Victoria Iglesias and Marina Guinart in exactly one hour

Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria 's arrival in the semifinals has guaranteed the two the possibility of keeping the sceptre of number one couple even at the end of the BNL Italy Major, regardless of how it ends at the Foro Italico. But if you look at the individual rankings the story is very different, because Gemma Triay can still surpass both current leaders, as already happened - for just one week - after the tournament in Asuncion, before Ari and Paula returned to the lead thanks to the title in Buenos Aires. A goal towards which the 32-year-old from the Balearics has taken a big step forward by reaching the Roman final, naturally alongside Delfi Brea , the partner with whom she aims to rewrite the hierarchies of women's padel.

Against Victoria Iglesias and Marina Guinart , the lowest-ranked pair to ever reach the semifinals of a Major (they started as the 11th seed), the Spaniard and the Argentine were clear favorites and were able to translate their superiority on the synthetic grass of the Centre Court, resolving the confrontation in exactly one hour. There was a brawl practically only until the sixth game of the opening set, when Gemma and Delfi found the first break of the duel and broke the balance, putting in an unsustainable gear for their brave rivals. It was clear from the number of errors: for the number 2 pair they decreased, for the opponents they increased and the final 6-3 6-1 was the most obvious of the consequences.

“Playing here ,” said the Spaniard after her success , “is always a pleasure. We are having a great week and I am really happy with the level of play we are showing. It is not easy to always get to the end of tournaments, because there are so many high-level couples.” “The key to the match? There were various ones ,” added her partner , “because we did so many things in the right way. These results are the result of great teamwork.” On Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., Triay and Brea will play their eighth final of the season and will go hunting for their fifth title in 2025. But that’s not all: Gemma is aiming to take her third Major in a row, after winning in 2024 in Acapulco with Claudia Fernandez and in April in Doha with her current partner. Should she succeed, it would be further proof of who is the strongest player on the planet.
