Sports on TV: Marco Foroni, Prime Video

"It will be a year marked by the reaffirmed Champions League and the new NBA," announced Marco Foroni, Head of Sport at Prime Video and Sports Business Lead for Prime Video Italy. "Regarding the Champions League," he emphasized, "we are very pleased with the audience results achieved this year: regardless of the performance of the Italian teams, we recorded an 18 percent increase, and a match like the semifinal between PSG and Arsenal rose to the top three most-watched matches after Inter Milan-Bayern Munich and PSV-Juventus."
The Champions League will be covered starting August 20th—the playoffs to advance to the single group stage—by Sandro Piccinini and Massimo Ambrosini, confirmed along with the rest of the Wednesday night football team on Prime. "In this regard," notes Foroni, "we've managed to attract fans to the attention of a talented and knowledgeable host like Giulia Mizzoni, a witty yet rigorous pitchside commentator like Alessia Tarquinio, and a commentator still active as a footballer in Cristiana Girelli."
The American professional basketball league will also be launching on Amazon's platform in October, no longer being exclusively Sky's preserve. "For the first time," says Foroni, "we will have the NBA with around 100 games. This is a global agreement that guarantees exclusive matches on all our platforms, starting next summer with the NBA Finals. Throughout the season, we will have matches on Thursday and Friday nights as well as on Saturday nights around 11 p.m., always with Italian commentary, while the prologue and interviews will be conducted by American journalists. All this without affecting the price of subscriptions, which will remain €4.99."
