I don't know if you've ever met a cartoonist, since this story of Vetrina da leggere has been going around, I've met quite a few... and I remember the first one, that Guglielmo Cresta di Gallo who brought some comic strips to the editorial office and even now when I look at them I roll around laughing, I wrote a little page about him and that day I had two intuitions in one go... the first, that of the literary short, that is, the story contained in a sheet, and the second that the Cresta di Gallo in question, with that face and those clothes, was a comic strip himself... and then I found Renato, and this one never wanted to write his name, he wasn't very young anymore but he had the face of a boy, just like comic strip characters who are always difficult to age, and then Chiara, size 38, her hands in her pockets and her dad's trousers, wide at the top and wide at the bottom, and she too was a living comic strip, and then Franco, already famous, who walked with his head down with words that came out of that concentration in the shape of a cloud... and this one just looking at them, because when you get to know them a little, you think they come from another world, but maybe now I'm the one writing a comic book story, and I see a series of characters, bizarre looking and good at heart, invading the earth to make it better... and their efforts are remarkable, they ring the bells of the publishers, or they stay at home dreaming, and the publishers don't understand, and those in advertising even less, television invites those who are recommended, it's all a trade, and on the walls of the cities the usual messages appear... total sale, come to the discount party... and beauty doesn't exist, they make you believe that happiness is on offer at 75%, and it's a bargain... and if I really wrote a story like that I'm already wondering how to end it, if with the victory of the good guys, the artists who came with their pencils from another planet, a bit predictable, or if I should remain in the illusion of the enterprise... I don't know, if it ever happened, I think I'll do the first episode and then see what happens.
